Today has been an ok day so far. We met with one of the fellows this morning and Kevin is finally getting a hickman port! This is exciting, as he will no longer have to get regular IV’s, except for 1 temporary one for the next week. His chemo and other IV’s will go directly into the hickman and it will last for about a month with very low chance of infection! We originally though he would be getting a mediport, but it was decided with the chances of Kevin getting a fever in the next 48 hours, it would be best to do a more temporary hickman.
Kevin was unable to sleep last night due to anxiety, so they are giving him some meds for that starting this evening. We are praying the meds help to relieve his anxiety and allow his body to get the rest he dearly needs.
I got to visit with my mom and sister today while Kevin got some cleaning up/chair time. It was nice to see them again-we’re finishing up the last minute details of the BBQ on Saturday and hoping all goes smoothly. We’ll all be relieved to be done with it, but I send a HUGE thanks to them for taking the reigns to it so I can be here with Kevin without worrying.
Kevin is hoping to get some rest this afternoon, but we’re still waiting on the hickman to be “installed” either today or tomorrow. In the meantime, leave some love for Kevin to read as he’s anxious to hear from all of you!
Hello guys! Thought I would leave some “love” for Kevin even though I have only met him once or twice! 🙂 Know that we are praying for both of you daily. My daughter Jeanette helps pray for my friend that is very sick each night! Brenda, looking forward to seeing you on Saturday! Too bad Kevin can’t enjoy the wonderful weather today, it is soo nice out! Prayers that you can have a very restful night of sleeping Kevin!
Much Love,
Amanda
Hey kevin and Brenda..
Brenda, I have never had the opportunity to meet you-but I have heard great things. I knew Kevin back in the day-when he was living with Lorne-and I always thought he was one of the nicest guys.
I was so sorry to hear about all that is going on with him-devastated actually. We have a very scary situation going on here as well within our family-and when it happens to you, and you realize WHAT people actually have to go through-you can’t help but feel for the person. Cancer is a terrible terrible disease-but with the right Doctors,and as important-prayer, we hope Kevin, and my mother will be able to beat this.
Please tell him I said Hi-and that I am thinking of him alot-both of you actually. I am glad to see these updates-myself and sisters are always wanting to see the updates and talk about it alot!
Hope things continue to improve for Kevin, and the overall situation in general. I can’t imagine the stress you must have -but your faith seems to keep you strong, and that is a wonderful thing!
Take care and again-get well soon Kevin!!!!
Dear Kevin and Brenda, although we have never met we lift you up daily in prayer! Bethany Hamby is our niece and has shared your struggles with us. I struggle with sleep sometimes and spend alot of that time in prayer. Something someone told me along time ago is when you can’t sleep don’t count sheep- talk to the Shepherd!! Praying for peaceful rest for you Kevin, healing from surgery, protection from infection, fluid around heart and the shrinking of tumor. love in Christ, Lori and Larry Neu and kids
Psa 121.
I lift up my eyes to the hills—
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth.
He will not let your foot slip—
he who watches over you will not slumber;
indeed, he who watches over Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.
The Lord watches over you—
the Lord is your shade at your right hand;
the sun will not harm you by day,
nor the moon by night.
The Lord will keep you from all harm—
he will watch over your life;
the Lord will watch over your coming and going
both now and forevermore.
Brenda, please let Kevin know there are many people that are thinking and praying for both of you. We can never know or feel the anxiety he is going through but hopefully with him knowing how many people are reading this blog he will feel there are many people behind him wishing he could release some tension and get some much needed sleep and rest.
P.S. Brenda can you please give an address again where we can send cards and donations by cheque. Thanks.
Hi Brenda,
This is Jess, Bethanys friend from nursing orientation, we had met over lunch a few times. Bethany told me about this site and I always check it to make sure things are going okay. I know I’ve never met your husband, but your story really touched my heart. I’m glad to see that your husband is doing well, and that everyone is doing as much as they can to help! Your family is in my prayers, and I hope that things keep getting better!
Jessica
